Tsinghua University, established in 1911, is a premier university in China. The campus is located in northwest Beijing on the site of a beautiful former imperial garden of the Qing Dynasty. At present, the university has 20 schools and 59 departments with faculties in science, engineering, humanities, law, medicine, history, philosophy, economics, management, education and art.Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM) was established in 1984.

ACADEMICS

  • Nicolas (Fall 2019): Quality very much depending on the professors. CEMS global class (with Mr. White) was pretty good. Interesting group projects. In general, classes with guest speakers were pretty good. Fairly good options.

WORKLOAD

  • Nicolas (Fall 2019): Moderate. Some group projects required a bit more effort, bur overall the workload is moderate

CITY LIFE

  • Nicolas (Fall 2019): Very good. Loads of opportunities to explore. Many things to do/see in and outside of Beijing. Easy to move around

CEMS Life

  • Nicolas (Fall 2019): Very good. Small cohort (ca. 25 Cemsies), so the community feeling was strong. Did many activities/traveling etc. together

HOUSing

  • Nicolas (Fall 2019): On campus: very cheap (ca. 350€ per month for a single room in a dormitory) / Off campus (ca. 500€ per month in shared flats)

PRIce of one beer

  • Nicolas (Fall 2019): Living costs depend very much on your lifestyle. If you only eat in the school's canteens you can spend less than 5-10 € per day. "Western" activities/food is mostly a bit pricey. Didi (Chinese version of Uber is very cheap). Public transport is cheap. Price of one beer: 1-2€

Tsinghua is a great experience if you want to learn more about the Chinese culture, lifestyle and way of education, and it is also a good spot to explore other regions within Asia.
